EDGE OF EMPIRE XP FULL
This character will obtain full XP for participating. The character selected is now the primary character for the player. During each session, players must select one of their characters to play.
These characters follow the standard rules for character creation from the Edge of The Empire core rules. I've read posts by GMs who have regretted scaling up the xp they give out as to pushes characters to more power -much- faster. Each player may create two player characters. Just something I've seen a couple times so I'll throw it out there. I'd like to offer a counter opinion to Marquis. On top of that there's the plot objectives and motivation xp, of course.
EDGE OF EMPIRE XP PC
Given the above, I put myself in the "per encounter" camp and judge a minor encounter to be a handful of rolls total and a major encounter to be a handful of rolls per PC xp rewards being minor encounters are 2-3xp and major 3-5.
EDGE OF EMPIRE XP PLUS
The latest one suggests the "baseline experience reward deemed appropriate (typically 15 XP per PC per session)" plus 40-45xp maximum (any one group won't get all of this as some is very tricky to get/practically mutually exclusive) objective completion xp per each of the three arcs which make up the book. The other source of xp guidance we see are the adventures. A non-career skill costs 5 times the rank it's being raised to PLUS 5 additional XP. A career skill costs 5 times the rank it's being raised to. During creation, no skill can be raised higher than 2. We don't get any information on what makes a major vs minor encounter or what exactly constitutes a session (outside of one sitting for the game). During play, no characteristic can be increased higher than 6. Well, iirc the book says 10-15 xp for a session with 2-3 major encounters and a handful of minor ones. I've given as much as 30 xp in a 4 hour session. or sometimes we have a really entertaining, but ultimately unimportant, 75 minute shopping encounter ( is that really worth 5 xp? ). However, sometimes the group is unsure of what to do and spends a lot of time in discussions or trying to figure things out. which would fall in line with the 5xp / hour rule.

My players generally end up with 20xp / session. The actual "talent" of role-playing varies among individuals, so I rely more on intent and effort than results. I adjust total xp given based on what gets done and what doesn't.Īt the end, I also give a 5xp bonus if all players have done their best to play within their character and not be a distraction to the table. Sometimes all 5 happen, sometimes they don't. In a general 4 hour session I will try to plan for about 5 encounters, resulting in 15xp. If the encounter is particularly large or complex, I might give 4xp for it and if it's particularly small or easy, I might give only 2xp for it. As an alternate response to the "per hour of play", I generally grant 3xp "per encounter" ( regardless of success or failure ). Game Playability on Windows XP for Intel 82945G Express Chipset.
